Themelio Battery Energy Storage System (BESS)
The “Themelio” Battery Energy Storage System is located in Polygyros, Chalkidiki. It is our company’s first energy storage project and among the first BESS projects in Greece. Themelio was electrified in April 2026. The project carries the symbolic name “Themelio” (meaning “foundation”), highlighting its role as the first cornerstone of Principia in the energy storage sector. At the same time, it reaffirms our commitment to energy innovation and sustainable investments, with a focus on energy storage – a key enabler for maximizing the value of renewable energy. The action is implemented under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan Greece 2.0, with funding from the European Union – NextGenerationEU.
Technical Characteristics
Technical Characteristics of the Project:
- 26 Sungrow Battery Containers (China)
- Each container has a maximum capacity of 5,015 kWh, equipped with CALB cells – 314Ah
- 13 Sungrow Production Substations
- The substations include 13 power transformers (5,140 kW each) & 13 medium-voltage switchgears (33 kV)
- 2 Main Medium-Voltage Terminal Substations
