With our crucial contribution and after 5 years of procedures, the European Commission registers Greek flower honey "Kissouri Honey" as a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO).
Our decisive contribution to the local community of South Evia was recently recognized with the registration of the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) for "Kissouri Honey" by the European Commission.
The project "Support of the Karystos Beekeeping Association for the registration of the name 'Kissouri Honey' in the Community Register of Protected Geographical Indications", was commissioned and funded by the company in January 2019. It concerned the Association, which is the only body that has the right to submit the relevant registration request. Five years later, the competent EU body certifies Kissouri honey as a Protected Designation of Origin. The honey is produced in the wider area of Kafireas, our largest wind farm in Greece.

PDO Designation for a special product
The "Kissouri" honey is the autumn heather honey produced in the region of Karystia by bees that harvest the flowers of the purple heather (Erica manipuliflora) that grows in the area. It is presented in liquid or crystallized form, its taste is slightly bitter, its color is dark with red-bronze shades, and its aroma is intense and long-lasting.
The PDO name not only proves the origin of the product, but also sets it apart from the competition, highlighting its unique quality and providing consumers with certainty of its authenticity. With the product being legally and financially protected, local producers have the opportunity to further develop their business activity through beekeeping.
Our support towards this effort confirms our commitment to initiatives for the sustainable development of local communities, in all regions of Greece where we operate. Our initiatives are fully aligned with the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals, with this activity being part of SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth.
