Through visits to our wind farms throughout Greece, the children had the opportunity to participate in a different educational experience around Renewable Energy Sources
We believe that getting to know the world of energy can start at an early age and that learning becomes more valuable when it is linked to real experiences. With this philosophy in mind, we created "Kids in the Plant", a program specially designed for the children of our employees, which combines energy education with sustainability and safety.
As part of the program, we opened the doors of our facilities and welcomed children and families of employees at the Martino wind farm, in Fthiotida, at the Zoodochos Pigi wind farm, in the Kozani area, and at the Soros wind farm, in the Alexandroupolis area.
From "Energy on the Go" to "Kids in the Plant"
At the heart of the action is “Energy on the Go”, Principia's educational program that has been bringing students and young people closer to energy and sustainable development for 12 school years. To date, about 5,500 children have participated in our educational initiatives, through school visits, presentations and guided tours of wind and photovoltaic parks throughout Greece.
With “Kids in the Plant”, this educational experience came even closer to our own family. “Energy on the Go” was integrated into the visits, so that the children could first learn basic concepts about Renewable Energy Sources and then see them in practice, within the wind farm itself. The wind turbines, the equipment and the electricity production process thus became part of an experiential educational experience, helping the children to connect what they learned with what they saw around them.
Education as part of the energy transition
With the guidance of our people and wearing the necessary Personal Protective Equipment, the children toured the facilities and got to know basic aspects of the operation of a wind farm, as well as the safety rules that are followed daily in our projects. At the same time, the children got to know a different side of their parents' daily lives, seeing up close the environment in which they work and better understanding the importance of their work.
Local teams of the Fire Service also participated in the visits, presenting firefighting methods to the children and answering their questions about the work they do every day.
The energy transition is not only about technology and infrastructure, but also about the new generation, the knowledge about the energy we use every day and the cultivation of a more meaningful relationship with sustainability. Through the "Kids in the Plant" initiative, we seek to create even more opportunities for children to get to know Renewable Energy Sources, encouraging their curiosity and willingness to learn.
