Quality Education

For yet another year, our educational program "Energy on the Go" opens a new cycle of activities, inviting students and young people from all over Greece to discover the world of energy and sustainable development.

The program has been implemented since 2014 under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports and has evolved into a stable channel of communication with the educational community. Through presentations, discussions and experiential activities, children become familiar with Renewable Energy Sources, energy saving, the circular economy and modern environmental challenges.

5,500 children and young people participated to date

In its 11 years of implementation, more than 5,500 pupils, students and young people have participated in "Energy on the Go". During the school year that ended, the actions of the program traveled to schools and educational institutions in different regions of the country, among others, to Polygyros, Chalkidiki, near the “Themelio” Battery Energy Storage Station, where students participated in an interactive discussion about energy production and storage. At the same time, students visited our Corporate Hub and talked to its people for the day-to-day operation of energy projects and employment prospects in the sector. These actions gave participants the opportunity to connect theoretical knowledge with real projects and applications.

Employees of the company voluntarily participate in the implementation of the program, who share their knowledge and experience, answer children's questions and contribute to the creation of a meaningful educational experience.

New cycle of actions for 2026–2027

With the start of the new school year, "Energy on the Go" continues its journey with visits to classrooms, educational presentations and guided tours of our wind and photovoltaic parks throughout Greece. Our goal is to bring even more children and young people into contact with green energy, encourage dialogue around sustainability and help shape a new generation of informed and environmentally aware citizens.

The 11th consecutive year of our “Energy on the Go” educational program was completed, with new experiences, essential knowledge and an open dialogue with the new generation

“Energy on the Go” is an initiative that aims to bring energy knowledge closer to young people. Through presentations, visits and open discussions, the program is aimed at pupils and students, giving them the opportunity to get to know the world of energy, RES technologies and the professional prospects of the industry better.

During the 2025-2026 academic year, we implemented the program in over 16 educational institutions across Greece, together with our team of volunteer employees, confirming our main goal: to bring the world of energy closer to students, in a direct, experiential and meaningful way. Over the past 11 years, over 5,500 children and young people in total have participated in the program, through visits, presentations and other activities.

Expanding our actions

During this cycle, “Energy on the Go” continued to grow, expanding its footprint to different geographical areas and educational levels. A special moment was our visits to Thessaloniki and Chalkidiki, where we came into contact with student communities and presented key concepts around the energy transition, renewable sources and the role of energy storage in the modern energy system. The discussion also focused on the nearby “Themelio” Battery Energy Storage Station, highlighting the growing role of storage technology for the stability and flexibility of energy infrastructure.

At the same time, an important part of this year's activity was the strengthening of our relationship with technical education. Students from Vocational High Schools visited our offices, getting to know the daily life of a company in the energy sector. Through discussions with executives of different specialties, they gained a clearer picture of how theoretical knowledge translates into practical application, but also of the prospects that open up for them in the industry.

Alongside the academic community

At the same time, we took another step towards the academic community, as we strengthened our presence in universities and polytechnic schools throughout Greece. Through lectures and presentations, students had the opportunity to come into contact with real projects, modern challenges and technical issues related to the development and operation of energy infrastructure.  reaffirming the importance of linking university education with applied experience.

Continuing with the same commitment

What stood out again this year was the two-way value of the actions. On the one hand, the participants gained access to real knowledge and experiences from the field of energy. On the other hand, for us, each meeting was an opportunity to hear new ideas, concerns and expectations for the future of energy.

Closing this year's cycle, “Energy on the Go” continues to be a constant way of communicating with the new generation. We continue to create opportunities for open discussions, real-world experiences and a more direct understanding of the industry by students and young people, with the aim of bringing them one step closer to the world of energy every time.

We support the Aiolos NTUA student team of the National Technical University of Athens in their effort for distinction in the International Small Wind Turbine Competition 2026

We believe that the energy transition is based on innovation and collaboration, and needs people with knowledge, creativity and vision. In this context, we support the Aiolos NTUA student team of the National Technical University of Athens, which designs and manufactures small wind turbines, and will be participating in the International Small Wind Turbine Contest 2026.

Innovation in wind energy technology

Aiolos NTUA is a group of NTUA students from multiple disciplines, which works in the field of wind energy with the aim of developing innovative, efficient and sustainable small-scale solutions. The team made its first appearance at the ISWTC contest in 2024 with the "Meltemi" wind turbine, while in 2025 it achieved a significant distinction, winning first place in the overall ranking of the contest and second place in the Annual Energy Production category with the "Zephyros" wind turbine.

Today, the team consists of 35 students from the National Technical University of Athens, from the Schools of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. For this year's participation in ISWTC 2026, Aiolos NTUA is developing the new project "Alcyone", which focuses on improving the efficiency and overall operation of the wind turbine, with the main innovation being the introduction of an active pitch control mechanism. This technology is expected to help increase energy production, especially in low-wind conditions, as well as to make the wind turbine run more steadily at higher wind speeds.

A continuous commitment

Our support to Aiolos NTUA is another aspect of our ongoing collaboration with the National Technical University of Athens. Recently, we  participated in educational activities at the University, including the Seminar on Electrification Technologies and Applications at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, while we also supported the 21st EAWE PhD Seminar organized by NTUA, in collaboration with the Hellenic Wind Energy Association (ELETAEN) and the European Wind Energy Academy (EAWE).

Additionally, we support the Prometheus Eco Racing student team of NTUA, in its work to develop efficient electric vehicles. Through these initiatives, we actively strengthen the educational and research community, championing groups of young people working on technologies which will prove critical for our future: renewable energy sources, electromobility, energy efficiency and sustainable engineering solutions.

Building the future

For us, supporting teams like Aiolos NTUA is an investment in knowledge, innovation, and the people who will be called upon to design the next day of energy. We stand by the new generation of engineers and scientists, supporting their effort to turn academic knowledge into action and their ideas into solutions with real impact.

We continuously strengthen our connection with the academic community through targeted collaborations and initiatives with leading educational institutions across Greece.

Career Orientation Activities in Athens & Xanthi

Since the beginning of the year, as part of our career orientation initiatives and participation in career days, we have visited institutions such as the Alba Graduate Business School, the Doukas Schools, the International MBA program of the Athens University of Economics and Business, the School of Mechanical Engineering and Computer Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), as well as the Departments of Environmental Engineering and Production & Management Engineering at Democritus University of Thrace in Xanthi.

Through our participation in these activities, we offered students and recent graduates the opportunity to explore career prospects in the field of energy and Renewable Energy Sources (RES), while highlighting the importance of sustainable development and environmental responsibility in modern business practices.

Thematic Lectures on Renewables in Athens, Chania and Heraklion

Since the start of the new academic year, we have actively participated in thematic lectures and interactive talks on Renewable Energy Sources in universities and polytechnic schools across Greece.

We visited the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at NTUA, where we took part in the Seminar on Electrification Technologies and Applications. Our participation underscored the importance of collaboration between academic research and industry, emphasizing the opportunities that technological progress offers for developing innovative solutions in the fields of energy and storage. At the same time, we traveled to Crete, organizing open events in Heraklion and Chania with the participation of students from the School of Engineering of the Hellenic Mediterranean University and the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the Technical University of Crete. These events focused on the practical application of technology and the preparation of young engineers for the job market, offering them the chance to interact directly with our company’s professionals, learn about technological trends, and explore potential employment and collaboration opportunities.

Supporting the New Generation of Energy Professionals

Our collaboration with universities and polytechnic schools demonstrates our firm commitment to investing in the new generation of engineers and scientists. This effort follows our educational program Energy On The Go, designed for primary and secondary school students.

Through this program, we have already visited elementary and high schools in the Municipality of Polygyros, engaging with students on topics such as Renewable Energy Sources, energy efficiency, and the circular economy. The initiative took on special significance, as it coincided with the completion of Principia’s first BESS project in the region, “Themelio”.

Through initiatives like these, we strengthen the exchange of knowledge and experience and build channels of communication that foster research and innovation. With consistency and vision, we continue to support the academic community — investing in knowledge, talent, and the future of Greek engineering and technology.

We started "Energy on the Go" for another year. Our first visits took place in schools in Polygyros, Chalkidiki

As part of the educational program "Energy on the Go", we visited Primary Schools and High Schools in the Municipality of Polygyros and talked to students about renewable sources, energy saving and the circular economy. This action acquires special meaning as it was implemented in parallel with the completion of Principia's first energy storage project in the area, "Themelio".

Education for students of all ages

Starting the 11th year of the program, we visited two Primary Schools in Polygyros, where children had the opportunity to learn more about the concepts of energy, renewable sources, innovation and sustainability, through interactive methods and experiential games.

Furthermore, at Galatista High School, we opened a constructive dialogue with the participants about green energy, both as a driving force of sustainable development and as a dynamically developing sector that they can explore and choose for their professional future.  At the same time, we encouraged female students to engage in professions in the industry, electrical engineering and technology in general, as part of our effort to strengthen equality at work, combat stereotypes and empower women and girls in Science.

 "Themelio": a milestone in the energy transition

We operate in Polygyros with the "Vavdos" Solar Park and the "Themelio" Battery Energy Storage System. By developing a BESS solution, we contribute to the smoother integration of RES into the grid, reducing production cuts and enhancing stability during peak hours.

Through the implementation of "Energy on the Go", students understand energy technologies in practice and develop ecological awareness. Thus, we support the local community, making the new generation an active participant in the path to the green transition.

Looking ahead

By combining educational action and technological infrastructure, we are laying the foundations for a more sustainable energy future. At the same time, in Polygyros, we open a window of interaction with students, teachers, parents and the wider community.

Over 4,800 pupils and students from different regions of Greece have already participated in "Energy on the Go" since 2014. The program continues to be an opportunity for us to inspire, raise awareness and build a tomorrow with strong links between innovation and creating value for local communities, exactly as we envision it.

Through another giving initiative, we made a series of book donations to kindergartens and primary schools

In collaboration with Library4all, a non-profit organization that collects and distributes educational material, we donated books to selected kindergartens and primary schools whose libraries needed support. Identifying this need, we called on our employees to donate books for children aged 4 to 12.

As a result, we collected reading material in excellent condition, which will be sent to the Primary School of Amaliada, the Agios Dimitrios Kindergarten (Nafplio), the 4th Kindergarten of Heraklion, Crete, and the organization Reading is Growing Up.

Thanks to the book donations from our employees, these school libraries will become a little richer.

In line with the principles of the circular economy, we are strengthening the reuse of books, and at the same time improving students' access to material that cultivates knowledge and creative thinking.

Educational activities for all

This was another initiative to support the educational work of schools in our country. At the same time, as part of the "Energy on the Go" program, which we have been implementing for 11 years, we bring students into contact with the concepts of energy, sustainability and innovation, through experiential activities. With visits by our volunteer employees to schools,  As well as student trips to our plants, kids have the opportunity to combine the knowledge they gain from books with practical stimuli about the future of energy.

Also, during the Covid-19 pandemic, we offered technology equipment to the children of the Polymylos Primary School, in Kozani, so that they could attend their classes remotely.

With our initiatives, we continue to implement our goal of creating value, not only through the know-how and innovation of our activity, but also through actions that empower future generations.

We brought children closer to the concept of Renewable Energy, with a unique episode

We hosted the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation (ERT) children's program "Discovering the World", in a special episode dedicated to wind energy, entitled "The Power of Wind: A Source of Energy for Man". At our Martino Wind Farm, we welcomed kids who had the opportunity to get to know how wind energy works and what role Renewable Energy Sources can play in ensuring the sustainability of our planet.

Combining learning with entertainment, we explored the world of wind energy together with the young viewers, in a way that fosters imagination and curiosity.

Open knowledge at the wind farm

As part of the episode, we traveled to the Martino Wind Farm, in Fthiotida, and guided our young guests around the park's premises, as well as the inside of a wind turbine generator. With the help of Principia's engineer, the children learned how the power of the wind is harnessed to generate electricity, but also how a wind turbine works and is maintained. The contact with technology and the natural environment created an ideal framework for a meaningful educational experience.

Then, the children found themselves in the Physics application laboratory, where they discovered the scientific principle of wind energy and, through a fun activity, built their own small wind turbine, combining the knowledge they gained during their visit to the park with an experiential game.

The new generations close to Renewable Energy

Our trip to the Martino Wind Farm is an approach to how education, technology and the environment can be combined. Through the guidance of experts, we demonstrated how the energy transition can become everyone's business, starting with the new generations.

In this context, we have been implementing the Energy On The Go educational program for 10 years, with the aim of familiarizing children with Renewable Energy Sources and cultivating green consciousness in students of all ages. We also organize visits to our projects throughout Greece, giving children and youth the  opportunity to get to know the applications of green energy up close and to be informed about its role in the energy transition. With our initiatives, we are strengthening the foundations of a more responsible, more sustainable future society.

For the 10th year, we implemented the "Energy on the Go" educational program, which brings children and young people closer to green energy

With the Energy on the Go program, which started in 2014 and is implemented with the approval of the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports, we have brought energy closer to the young generation, through experience, knowledge and open dialogue, for another year. Over 750 children and young people from Athens, Veria, Komotini and Limassol had the opportunity to participate in the program,  to get to know the world of green energy and the circular economy and to raise awareness of environmental issues.

During the 2024-2025 school year, our team of volunteer employees made visits to over 11 educational institutions across Greece, in order to implement the program. As part of the educational program, we visited school units, welcomed students to our Corporate Hub, guided groups of students to our projects throughout Greece and were "present" at career events for young people.  In the 10 years of the program, and with the participation  of 75 educational institutions and school units throughout Greece, we talked to more than 4,700 children and young people, with the aim of creating an experiential educational experience around Renewable Energy Sources, sustainability and energy transition.

Energy experiences for the new generation

As part of the program, we organized for another year at the "Panagia Soumela" wind farm, an educational visit to explore and learn for young Scouts from Veria and Limassol. We also welcomed schools from Komotini and Xanthi to our wind farms "Monastiri 2" and "Zoodochos Pigi", where students had the opportunity to discover the operation of a project up close and discuss with our engineers about energy production.

A special place in this year's program was the visit of the students of the Vocational  High School of Perama to our Corporate Hub. We welcomed them with a presentation on Renewable Energy Sources and the applications of electrical engineering in the professions of the sector. Then, we guided them to our innovative Control Room, presenting the operation and maintenance of the projects, as well as our daily activities.

From theory to practice

"Energy on the Go" is characterized by the active participation of children in every step of its implementation, but also by the acceptance of the educational community, which incorporates the innovative methods and practical learning of the program to enrich the environmental education of students. Furthermore, through the program, we strengthen our relationship with local communities, highlighting the link between Renewable Energy and the green transition that will create a more sustainable world for generations to come.

We demonstrate every day our commitment to a sustainability model based on initiatives and targeted actions with a significant impact on people's daily lives and especially on the future of young people. Our Creating Shared Value - CSV initiatives are fully aligned with the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals, with this program being part of Goal 4: Quality Education.

Through our participation in the Career Days of major universities and the strategic connection with the academic community, we attract the new generation to the energy industry

For another year, we participated in the Career Days organized  by Alba Business School, the International MBA of the Athens University of Economics and Business and the National Technical University of Athens  for their students and graduates. This is an important opportunity to meet talented young people who are looking for their first professional step or a new start in their career.

The university community as a strategic partner

We believe that people are the most important success factor, with the younger generation taking an influential role in achieving the climate goals already set. For this reason, our contact with the academic community continues to be stable, constituting a central axis of our strategy.

With personal discussions, presentations of our activities and exchange of view, we enhance the dialogue with the professionals of tomorrow and we are able to have an overview of their needs, ambitions and values. Through our presence in events connecting students with the labor market, we build relationships of trust, strengthen our employer brand and consolidate our position as an employer of choice at the heart of the academic community.

Energy careers: an emerging challenge

The energy sector is undergoing a major transformation. The green transition, digitalisation and new technologies highlight the need for a skilled and innovation-oriented workforce. In this context, attracting new talent becomes even more important. Energy is not just a technical field but extends to a multi-layered strategy encompassing sustainability and social impact; young professionals are called upon to make a meaningful contribution, taking roles with responsibility and dynamics.

For us, investing in talent doesn't stop at a meeting. We offer targeted internship programs, mentoring, continuing education and access to projects with a real footprint. Our goal is to create opportunities for development and leadership for those who want to build a meaningful and long-term career in the energy sector.

As part of Energy On The Go, we welcomed students from the Vocational High School of Perama to our Corporate Hub

Continuing for the 10th year our educational program Energy On The Go, we have the opportunity to introduce children of all ages to the world of renewable energy. This time, we welcomed students from the First Grade of the Vocational High School of Perama, to our Corporate Hub.

Meeting the generation of the future

The visit began with a presentation on renewables and the applications of electrical engineering in the energy professions. The students of the High School had the opportunity to learn more about renewable sources and the energy sector, through an open dialogue with engineers of our company.

Afterwards, we gave the students a tour of the Control Room explaining how our projects operate throughout Greece and the daily activities that ensure the uninterrupted production of energy and the proper maintenance of the parks. Finally, we discussed with them the employment opportunities in the sector, exchanging views, solving questions and encouraging them to become tomorrow's energy professionals.

Education for the future

The main purpose of the program is to raise awareness on issues such as sustainable development and renewable energy sources. The subject matter covers sustainability, circular economy, energy efficiency and the differences between renewables and conventional energy sources.

The Energy on the Go educational program gives us the opportunity to meet the generation of the future and introduce its members to the world of renewable energy. By combining practical learning and knowledge with innovative methods, we directly show students the application of renewable energy sources in everyday life, cultivate their understanding of sustainability and prove its importance for the environment. for a greener future for the new generations.

We completed the innovative program Vamvakies Social Green Project that empowered enterpreneurship and created value for the residents of Kozani and the wider region.

The project

The Vamvakies Social Green Project was developed by Principia, in collaboration with Wise Greece and CluBE under the auspices of the Municipality of Kozani, exclusively for the Prefecture of Kozani and the wider region, with the aim of supporting people who are interested in empowerment, entrepreneurship and careers in the food industry. 

The program was divided into 2 sub-projects:  the empowerment of a small group of women farming in the Vamvakies PV plant area and the provision of free educational seminars on various topics for all the residents of Kozani.

An innovative program

The idea was put into practice at the solar plant near Polymylos Kozani, where a small group of women cultivated herbs, both in the open spaces and under the panels.

At the same time, the women were supported by a team of advisors and trainers, with the aim of becoming micro-entrepreneurs, marketing these original products and earning a substantial income.

From the materials of the crops in Vamvakies, we created the MYROLAND series of products, which consists of the following: spices for chicken, spices for pork, a Mediterranean mixture of herbs, as well as herbal drinks with the flavor of melomakarono, tsoureki, banoffee and paliouri.

This is the first time in Europe that a series of products from the land of a solar park has been launched on the market.

The educational program

Educational programs were organized and made available to all Kozani residents in order to promote and enhance entrepreneurship. The seminars took place online once a month and were supported by a large team of experienced trainers who flank the participants in every stage of their business career.

The participants were able to develop their knowledge of the nutrition sector and connect with mentors who could help them in every professional step. They also received training in very important entrepreneurship issues such as the preparation of a business plan, the production and promotion of products, effective communication, developing a network of customers and partners, digital marketing and much more.

The Vamvakies Social Green Project was honored for its Innovation and Social Impact with the Bravo Sustainability Award in the Society and Partnerships category and with the Gold Hellenic Responsible Business Award in the Decent Work & Economic Growth category.

Our Creating Shared Value (CSV) initiatives are fully in line with the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals. The Vamvakies Social Green Project is aligned with Goal 4 (Quality Education), Goal 5 (Gender Equality) and Goal 8 (Decent Work & Economic Growth).

We completed for the 9th consecutive year the educational program "Energy on the Go", with which we raise awareness of children and youth about green energy

More than 700 children and young people from Athens, Agrinio, Lamia and Grevena had the opportunity to participate and get to know in an experiential and fun way the world of green energy and circular economy but also to be sensitized to environmental issues. Our educational program "Energy on the Go" started in 2014 and receives the annual approval of the Ministry of Education,  Religious Affairs & Sports. It is addressed to pupils and students and takes place both in primary, secondary and higher education classrooms, as well as in our parks, throughout Greece.

During the 2023-2024 training year, our team of volunteer employees visited over 12 educational institutions across Greece to implement the program. In total, more than 4,000 young people have attended Energy on The Go.

Educational initiatives throughout Greece

Students from Grevena and Edessa chose to visit our wind farms "Monastiri 2" and "Zoodochos Pigi". With the help of our engineers, students had the opportunity to see up close the operation of the wind turbine but also to learn how wind is "converted" into energy.

At the park "Zoodochos Pigi", we organized another special educational activity, on the occasion of the World Wind Energy Day on June 15th. In collaboration with the Hellenic Wind Energy Association (ELETAEN), we "transformed" our wind farm in Vermio into an original "knowledge center" for children and young Scouts.

Finally, at the Martino wind farm in Fthiotida, we implemented an important initiative, as we welcomed young people from the Special Laboratory of Vocational Education and Training in Lamia. Thus, special education students had the opportunity to get acquainted, in an experiential and entertaining way, with modern technologies that help in the utilization of environmentally friendly energy sources.

Education for the future

The main purpose of the program is to raise awareness on issues such as sustainable development and renewable energy sources (RES). The theme covers sustainability, circular economy, energy efficiency and differences between renewable and conventional energy sources. The program, which is based on visits by our employees to schools during the school year, is divided into two parts: an interactive presentation and educational games. The presentation consists of videos and photos and simplifies complex concepts through understandable examples. Games, on the other hand, are designed to encourage problem-solving and teamwork and reinforce the concepts taught during the presentation.

The "Energy on the Go" training program gives us the opportunity to meet the generation of the future and introduce its members to the world of renewable energy sources. Combining practical learning and knowledge with innovative methods, we directly show students the application of renewable energy sources in everyday life, cultivate their understanding of sustainability and demonstrate its importance for the environment. In this way we pave the way for a greener future for new generations.

We demonstrate every day our commitment to a sustainability model based on initiatives and targeted actions with a significant impact on people's daily lives and especially on the future of young people. We created a new prototype wooden playground by used wooden pallets, that was symbolically named "Kivotos".

In Kozani, we completed a new innovative project that utilized the principles and practices of circular economy to offer education and empowerment to children but also to enhance the entertainment infrastructure of the  Center for Recovery - Rehabilitation, Day Care for People with Disabilities "Kivotos", in Kozani, operating in the country, since 2000. The project "Creating an Ark" was funded by the company,  with the contribution of the Cluster of Bioeconomy & Environment of Western Macedonia (CluBE) and the scientific support of the Department of Visual & Applied Arts of the University of Western Macedonia.

Through the project, the artistic skills of the children hosted at the Center were developed, the perception of the wider community about the value of material reuse and circular economy was strengthened and the relationship of the local community with the University of Western Macedonia was further cultivated, through the internship of 35 students who worked at the different stages of the construction of the wooden ark.

The "journey" of the pallet

More specifically, 500 wooden pallets that transported the PV panels to the "Perasma" Solar Cluster under construction, as well as 6 huge wooden cable drum with a diameter of 1.5m with medium voltage cables used in the project, were the raw material of this important project.

The process was divided into three phases. Initially, last December, the Center used part of the materials to create Christmas greeting cards, decorative ornaments and gifts, which were curated by the children. The children's creations were offered to our employees, and were distributed at the Christmas bazaar of the Center.

Then, students of the Department of Visual & Applied Arts of the University of Western Macedonia created original and utilitarian wooden toys. The objects helped the children of the "Kivotos" to develop their imagination and promote their social inclusion.

The culmination of the project was the creation of the wooden playground named "Kivotos", within the Center's facilities. For its construction, more than 450 man-hours were allocated and natural timber was used, as well as wooden pallets and wooden cable drum from the construction of the "Perasma" Solar Cluster. The ark can host dozens of children at the same time, being a unique meeting point, coexistence and respect for diversity. The area is covered and suitable for wheelchairs, in order for every child to have free access to the game. To complete the scenery, the remaining construction raw materials were transformed into wooden toys, which have been placed inside the playground.

Projects with social impact

The support to the "Kivotos" project, which annually benefits 120 families in the wider region, is practical proof of our commitment to give back to society. It is yet another initiative in a series of circular economy projects, such as the reuse of old merchandising materials in the context of rebranding in collaboration with Fabric Republic and the creation of a recreational area in its wind farm "Soros", in Evros. Driven by innovation and creativity, we create shared value, in every area where we operate, with this initiative being part of SDG 4 - Quality Education, SDG 10 - Reduced Inequalities, and SDG 11 - Sustainable Cities and Communities.

On Sunday, June 16, we celebrated Global Wind Day with a special initiative, organizing an activity in Northern Greece to explore one of our wind parks.

Once again, in the framework of Global Wind Day, we organized an activity in one of our wind farms, so as to bring the public closer to Renewable Energy Sources. Specifically, we "transformed" our wind farm "Zoodohos Pigi", in Vermio, into an original "knowledge center" for children and young Scouts.

For the younger generation

We collaborated, for yet another year, with the Hellenic Wind Energy Association (ELETAEN) and created a special field trip for the Scout groups of the wider region, based on our model educational program "Energy On The Go". The day began with a tour of the wind farm "Zoodohos Pigi", offering children and youth the opportunity to see up close the technology behind the operation of wind farms.

We then discussed the importance of wind energy for building a sustainable future. We also delved into the energy industry, explored related fields of study, and talked about the career prospects and career opportunities offered by the RES sector. The workshops were complemented by outdoor activities designed by the Scouts to promote teamwork and environmental awareness.

The participants were given the educational brochures of ELETAEN "Learning about Wind Energy" and "Fyssa Aeraki Fysa me", which, through a series of thematic activities and creative exercises with shapes, colorful pictures, crosswords, drawings and crafts, encourage young children to play and learn more about wind energy and the crucial role of Renewables.

Education for the future

June 15th was established as Global Wind Day in an effort to raise awareness and inform the public about the benefits arising for the environment and the sustainability of the planet from the use of Wind Energy and the need to ensure air quality. The initiative belongs to the European Wind Energy Association (WindEurope) and the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC).

By encouraging and educating the younger generation about renewable energy, all of us at Principia are actively contributing to a future based on clean technologies. At the same time, this approach is aligned with our strategic model of creating shared value, which ensures that our activities also benefit the local communities in which we operate. Our actions for the Creation of Shared Value (CSV) are fully aligned with the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals, with this initiative being part of SDG 4 - Quality Education and SDG 17 - Partnerships for the Goals.

We undertook the study of energy needs in Mavrodendri, Kozani and implemented a three-fold program, through which residents received personalized support to improve their quality of life.

We actively support local communities in the areas where we operate, contributing steadily to local cultural events and social programs. In this way, we demonstrate our commitment to the holistic development of each region, as well as the creation of mutual value.

In this context, we implemented the program "Energy Poverty - Identification and addressing of energy needs", for the community of Mavrodendri Kozani. Nearby, there is the Perasma Solar Cluster, with a total capacity of 95 MW, which will contribute significantly to the country's energy transition.

An innovative program

The aim of the project, implemented in collaboration with the Bioeconomy and Environment Cluster (CluBE) of Western Macedonia, was to investigate the phenomenon of energy poverty in Kozani. The area of Mavrodendri was chosen as it is located both in the coldest zone of the country and in the center of the energy transition.

The three stages of the initiative

The project was implemented in three phases. Initially, a detailed survey was carried out, in which the residents participated, in order to record the energy needs of the community. The data collected provided important information on the socio-economic status and energy consumption patterns of households in the region.

The company then used the survey data and created a roadmap for households and local authorities to effectively tackle energy poverty.

Practical applications

At the same time, for the most substantial support of the local community, a one-stop shop was created and staffed. The service offered interested parties personalised advice on energy efficiency and upgrading buildings.

At the same time, residents had the opportunity to be informed about the available financial tools regarding the implementation of energy upgrades in their homes. The installation of solar panels or battery systems, as well as the improvement of heating and cooling systems, are recommended solutions in this field.

This is the only structure in Greece designed to facilitate two-way communication between citizens and experts, promoting sustainable energy practices.

Meaningful support to local communities

The initiative is part of our strategy to empower local communities in all areas where we operate. More specifically, in the area of Kozani, we implemented the Vamvakies Social Green Project. The program aimed to support entrepreneurship and empower citizens of Kozani to develop careers in the food industry. At the same time,  a group of women cultivated aromatic plants in our solar park in Vamvakies. Women were supported to become micro-entrepreneurs, market these original products and earn a significant income.

This year, more than 600 children and young people participated in our innovative educational program "Energy on the Go", approved by the Ministry of Education.

Our innovative educational program “Energy on the Go” has been underway since 2014 and aims to raise young people’s awareness of sustainable development and the circular economy. It also highlights the importance of renewable energy sources (RES) for both the present and the future of our planet. The program, approved by the Ministry of Education for the past eight years, introduces students to the world of the green transition and sustainable practices. Thus, it enables them to understand complex concepts, but also to become environmentally aware citizens.

Another successful year for the program

During the 2022-2023 academic year, our team of volunteers made visits to public and private schools in Athens to carry out the program. The educational activities covered topics such as sustainability, the circular economy, energy efficiency and differences between renewable and conventional energy sources.

About 600 students from Athens, Thessaloniki and Komotini had the opportunity to participate and get to know the world of green energy and the circular economy in a fun way, but also to become more informed about environmental issues. Since 2014, more than 3,000 young people have participated in the program.

Educational initiatives throughout Greece

Schools from Thessaloniki and Komotini chose to visit our wind farm, “Monastiri II” in Thrace. With the help of our engineers, students had the opportunity to see up close the operation of the wind turbine but also to learn how air is "converted" into energy.

On the occasion of World Wind Day on June 15th, we organized activities in collaboration with the Hellenic Wind Energy Association (HWEA), near our plants in Karystos and Alexandroupolis. The children and young people who participated had the opportunity to learn about the value of renewable energy sources (RES) in their daily lives, through the “Energy on the Go” program and printed material.

Sustainable development in focus

Energy on the Go is part of these practices, bringing added value to the school community.  Through the program, we add to the education of students, providing them with up-to-date knowledge. With this initiative, we aim to create a greener planet for future generations and pave the way to the green transition.

Volunteering, according to recent research, has a decisive and particularly important impact on well-being in the workplace, while also contributing to society as a whole.

Our "Be the Hero" program highlights the importance of volunteering, as well as its many benefits for our mental health and our lives as a whole.

Volunteering activities of substance

On September 29 2022, as part of both the International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste and our new "Be the Hero" program, we organized a special activity. Our volunteer team, in collaboration with the NGO Love Dinner, prepared and distributed 1,000 portions of food to the homeless and needy in the center of Athens.

In November of the same year we organized a voluntary clean-up activity in Parnitha, in collaboration with the "Save Your Hood" movement. On that occasion we collected over 4,000 litres of waste and rubble covering an area of about 3,000 square meters.

And, as part of our commitment to social contribution, during the Christmas holiday season we helped our most vulnerable fellow citizens in the areas where we operate. More specifically, we collected almost a ton of food and delivered it to institutions and organizations in Athens, Alexandroupolis, Kozani, Evia and Patras.

Our activities continued in 2023 because, for all of us, volunteering is a way of life. We visited the "Chatzipaterio" Children's Rehabilitation & Support Centre (K.A.S.P.). There, we joined the children in creating special busy boards, making Easter candles and baking pastries, sharing love and offering support.

Protecting the environment is one of the key pillars of our strategy. True to our commitment to developing sustainable practices, we carried out another clean-up initiative in the area that surrounds the Vravrona wetland, one of the most important in Attica, part of the Natura 2000 network. Our team of volunteers, along with their kids, started cleaning up the area around the wetland, and by collecting a large amount of waste and recyclables, such as plastic bottles and aluminum cans, we significantly contributed to the reshaping of the natural environment.

Our efforts are ongoing and diverse, which is why our latest volunteering activity reinforced the most important value of all: saving lives. We organized a blood donation drive in our offices, which was met with enthusiastic participation by our people.

Employees as Heroes

Through these actions, we strive to become "heroes" in everyday life, enhancing social solidarity through initiatives that contribute to the common good. We show in practice, at every opportunity, our solidarity, support and spirit of giving to those in need. This is also evident in the informal reward system that has been set up internally. Through this, we all have our own personalized board on which we place reward stickers every time we take part in a volunteering activity. Those who collect the most stickers during the year will be the heroes of the city!

We welcomed a group of students from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens to our Martino Wind Park in Fthiotida.

For several years, we’ve been implementing a series of programs – such as "Energy On The Go" – aimed at informing and educating young people about the principles of sustainable development, the circular economy, innovation and renewable energy sources (RES). 

Recently, we welcomed more than 40 students from the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) to our Martino Wind Park. The students are members of the Power & Energy Society of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers in NTUA, whose main pillar is scientific knowledge in the field of energy, climate change and renewable energy sources.

A future in renewable energy

During their visit to our wind park, the students were given a tour of the facilities and learned about the operating and maintenance procedures at the plant. Then, they saw the operating mechanisms of a wind turbine up close, and talked with our engineers about technology sector developments and innovations in storage, hybridization and repowering. 

Finally, they discussed job prospects in energy companies with our executives and the steps they should follow to start a successful career in the field of renewable energy sources. The industry is growing rapidly, both in Greece and around the world, and today's students are the ones who will take part in the green transition in the coming years, achieving new technological advances and implementing new innovative solutions for a more sustainable future.

Educational initiatives

This is part of our educational initiatives that aim to bring young people closer to green energy. Since 2014, we’ve been implementing the educational program "Energy On The Go", with the approval of the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs. It’s an experiential learning program that aims to raise students’ awareness of the principles of sustainable development, renewable energy sources and their applications in everyday life.

We celebrated Global Wind Day 2023 with two special sports activities for youngsters that focused on physical exercise, mental well-being, awareness about wind energy and exploring the natural environment near our wind farms.

According to its official website, Global Wind Day on June 15 is “a day for discovering wind energy, its power and the possibilities it holds for reshaping our energy systems, decarbonizing our economies and boosting jobs and growth.” And in order to celebrate it we decided to organize two events (one a few days before, and one a few days after) near our wind farms that concentrated on outdoor activities (namely, cycling and hiking) for children and adults of all ages. And we did so in collaboration with the Hellenic Wind Energy Association (HWEA, or ELETAEN).

A breath of fresh mountain air

On Sunday, June 11, and in collaboration with Karystia’s “Anemos” Cycling Club, we organized an inter-club mountain bike competition on a specially designed track in Kontoremata, Karystos. This is near our wind cluster in Kafireas, South Evia. More than 300 children and teenagers from various clubs around the country took part in the races and special cycling tournaments. Various age groups raced around a circular track which included trunks, jumps and artificial obstacles.

On Saturday, June 17, we made a hike near the village of Aysymi in the area of our wind farm in Soros Alexandroupolis, in cooperation with "Higher than Everest".

Promoting environmental awareness

In both activities, those taking part had the opportunity to learn about the value of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) in their daily lives through our "Energy On The Go" educational program, but also through the HWEA’s printed materials. With a series of themed activities, creative exercises and books such as “Mathaino gia tin Aioliki Energeia” (Learn about Wind Energy) and "Fysa Aeraki, Fysa me" (Let the Wind Blow), young children were encouraged to play and learn more about wind energy and the decisive role of RES in the green transition.

February 11 is the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. As part of our commitment to this cause, we opened our doors to a group of young women and showed them the many professional opportunities offered by the flourishing energy sector.

The energy sector remains one of the professional fields with the lowest level of participation by women. Bridging the gender gap is crucial, as women are key drivers of innovation and sustainable, inclusive growth. Despite the significant steps taken in recent years, with the number of women among students at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral level steadily increasing, research shows that women continue to be under-represented in the technology sector, accounting for only 25% of jobs and only 3% of positions of responsibility and leadership.

For this reason, we are encouraging women to start careers in the energy sector. The International Day of Women and Girls in Science (February 11) is an opportunity for us to open our doors to women who want to get a glimpse of a professional future in the energy sector. And that is why we welcomed a group of beneficiaries of the EXELIXI ZOIS program. These girls, who have either just finished school or are taking their first career steps, were given a tour of our company's facilities. They also got to to talk to our executives and female engineers about the great professional opportunities offered by the energy and technology sector, which is enjoying dynamic growth in Greece.

State-of-the-art technology

We operate the most modern Control & Monitoring Room in Greece and we are applying new  technologies with revolutionary sustainable practices in our projects. We are a company that not only combines renewable energy with the implementation of innovative solutions, but also provides our employees with continuous training in new technologies.

This helps explain why we offer practical support for the work of EXELIXI ZOIS, and empower the residents of gated child protection facilities in their first steps as active, self-reliant and self-sufficient members of society. The young women who came to see us had the opportunity to visit the offices and Control & Motoring Room. Our executives then shared useful tips on how to handle a job interview, which nowadays largely determines whether a candidate is hired or not.

Personal experiences

During the session, female employees shared their experiences in the energy sector and talked about the difficulties and challenges they faced during their careers, as well as the unconditional support they received from the company.

In the discussion that followed, we focused on the challenges posed by the rapid technological evolution for energy companies, as well as the stereotypes that women who want to work in technology and energy – two areas still considered to be predominantly male – have to face.

We need more women in the energy and technology sector

Our company has undertaken several initiatives to empower women and encourage their development in positions of responsibility, creating an equal and inclusive work environment. One such initiative is "Her Community" in which all our female colleagues freely discuss and organize workshops with special guests on issues of concern to them. Another initiative is the "Women engineers at schools" program, which entails our female executives talking to schoolgirls about the challenges and opportunities of engineering as a profession. This is in order to show that women can also be excellent engineers and to encourage more girls to choose this career.

At the same time, we will continue to support the work of EXELIXI ZOIS by covering part of the female students' expenses for the coming academic year. We are placing a strong emphasis on technology and innovation, while also remaining committed to equality and removing barriers to the participation of more women in the sector. In actual fact, we are first RES company in Greece to have signed the EU Diversity Charter.
